Check out the Patterdale Weather
Whilst The How’s kitchen offers the full range of facilities needed to produce a gastronomic feast we realise that sometimes it’s nice to east out and let someone else do the washing up. You also need somewhere to buy your vital supplies. We recommend the following:
Within Walking Distance of The How in Patterdale
The White Lion Inn is just 300 yards from the cottage and serves food and drink all day. It has a wide ranging menu of what could best be described as good honest pub grub, as well as some fine local ales. The portions are epic and you’ll be doing well to leave still hungry! It can be busy especially during school holidays so it may be worth booking a table in advance.
The Patterdale Hotel is just around the corner from the shop and the White Lion. It is open to non-residents and has a bar and restaurant. In the summer it has a nice beer garden at the front with some stunning views and is a great place to soak up the early evening sun.
Old Water View literally over the road from the How also offers evening meals and a small takeway service.
Glenridding is about a 15 minute walk away from the cottage. It has a good range of local shops including a newsagent and gift shop, and two general stores, Sharmans and Browns, selling a wide range of food, wine and other essentials. Sharmans also has a cashpoint (although it’s one that charges you take your money out).
Catstycam Outdoor Shop is also in Glenridding selling a great range of outdoor equipment. The friendly staff will make sure you have the right stuff. Especially good for boots.
Also in Glenridding is a great local garage. As well as petrol and other essentials Neal is the best mechanic we’ve come across so if you have any niggles with your car while you’re here it’s worth popping in for a chat.
